All time English FFC XI: An Ode to the Euro24 Final

With the Euro 2024 final looming and England set to face Spain, it's the perfect time to celebrate Fulham's English legends. This Best Ever Fulham XI, entirely made up of English players, honours those who have left an indelible mark on Craven Cottage.


GK - Jim Stannard

"He's fat, he's round, he's worth a million pound" Jim Stannard was a formidable presence between the sticks for Fulham during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Stannard's imposing figure and sharp reflexes made him a fan favourite during his career at Fulham. He made 389 appearances and was crucial in the team’s promotion from the Third Division in 1982. His dedication and consistency earn him the spot as our all-time best English goalkeeper.

RB - George Cohen

George Cohen is not just a Fulham legend but also an England hero, having been part of the 1966 World Cup-winning squad. Known for his defensive solidity and ability to contribute to attacks, Cohen spent his entire professional career at Fulham, racking up 459 appearances. Praised by none other than Pelé, who called him the best full-back he ever faced, Cohen's legacy at Fulham and in English football is indisputable.

CB - Bobby Moore

Bobby Moore, widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of all time, joined Fulham towards the end of his illustrious career. Despite his brief stint with the Cottagers, Moore’s impact was immense. He played 124 games for Fulham, bringing his unparalleled defensive prowess and leadership to the team. Moore captained Fulham in the 1975 FA Cup final against West Ham, showing his enduring class and leadership.

CB - Paul Parker

Paul Parker, known for his versatility and tenacious defending, was a key player for Fulham in the 1980s. Initially starting as a right-back, Parker's adaptability saw him excel in various defensive roles. He made 153 appearances for Fulham before moving to QPR and later Manchester United, where he enjoyed further success. Despite his relatively short stature, Parker was renowned for his leaping ability and often out-jumped taller opponents.

LB - Joe Bryan

Joe Bryan etched his name into Fulham folklore with his heroics in the 2020 Championship play-off final against Brentford. His two goals, including a free-kick that made David Raya look an absolute fool, secured Fulham's return to the Premier League. Bryan's attacking prowess and memorable moments both on and off the field make him a standout choice for our best XI.



RM - Bobby Robson

Before becoming one of England's most beloved managers, Bobby Robson was a talented midfielder for Fulham. Robson made 152 appearances for the Cottagers, showcasing his vision, passing ability, and leadership on the field. His intelligence and understanding of the game laid the foundation for his future managerial success. Robson was known for his ability to read the game and often played a crucial role in orchestrating Fulham's attacks from midfield.

CM - Johnny Haynes (c)

Johnny Haynes, affectionately known as "The Maestro," is arguably Fulham's greatest ever player. Haynes spent his entire career at Fulham, making 658 appearances and scoring 158 goals. Renowned for his exquisite passing, vision, and leadership, Haynes was the first player to be paid £100 a week in England. Haynes' influence was so great that Craven Cottage's stand is named in his honour. His creativity and skill make him the first choice for this side and the Captain of this XI.

CM - Danny Murphy

Danny Murphy, a pivotal figure in Fulham's recent history, putting the ball in the back of the net during the Great Escape and playing a crucial role in the club's Europa League run in 2010. Known for his passing accuracy, vision, and knack for scoring important goals, Murphy made 169 appearances for Fulham, scoring 18 goals. Murphy's leadership and performances earned him the captain's armband, and he remains a beloved figure among Fulham fans for his contributions during a golden era.

LM - Les Barrett

Les Barrett, a skilful winger, was a key player for Fulham during the 1960s and 1970s. Known for his pace, dribbling, and ability to deliver precise crosses, Barrett made 491 appearances for Fulham, scoring 90 goals. Barrett was part of the Fulham team that reached the 1975 FA Cup final, showcasing his talent on one of the biggest stages in English football. His flair and consistency on the left wing earn him a spot in our best XI.



ST - Bedford Jezzard

Bedford Jezzard, a prolific striker, was a goal-scoring machine for Fulham in the 1950s. Jezzard scored 154 goals in 306 appearances, making him the club's 3rd highest all-time scorer. Known for his clinical finishing and intelligent movement, Jezzard was a constant threat to opposition defenses. Jezzard's goal-scoring prowess earned him two caps for England, highlighting his talent and importance to Fulham.

ST - Bobby Zamora

Bobby Zamora, a key figure in Fulham's memorable Europa League campaign, was known for his strength, hold-up play, and knack for scoring crucial goals. Zamora made 91 appearances for Fulham, scoring 20 goals. Zamora scored in Fulham's famous victory against Juventus in the Europa League, cementing his place in the club's history and his remarkable turnaround from wayward striker to star player make him an essential part of our best XI.

Manager - Roy Hodgson

Roy Hodgson, the mastermind behind Fulham's Great Escape and the incredible run to the Europa League final in 2010, is the perfect manager for our best ever English XI. Known for his tactical acumen and ability to get the best out of his players, Hodgson transformed Fulham into a formidable team during his tenure. Hodgson's success at Fulham earned him the LMA Manager of the Year award in 2010 and eventually won him the England job, a testament to his impact at the club.

  • Jimmy Bullard: Known for his infectious personality and flair on the pitch, Bullard brought energy and creativity to Fulham's midfield.

  • Chris Smalling: Smalling's rise from non-league football to the Premier League with Fulham is a testament to his talent and determination. Also, the fact that he was bought for a bag of balls and set of tracksuits is all time!

  • Eddie Lowe: A Fulham stalwart, Lowe made 511 appearances for the club, showcasing his consistency and reliability.

  • Alan Mullery: A tough-tackling midfielder, Mullery was known for his leadership and tenacity, and he was the first ever player to be sent off for England.

  • Wayne Bridge: Bridge, a solid left-back who was with Fulham for a short time, brought experience and defensive stability to Fulham, and his hatred for John Terry gets him a spot on the bench.

  • Sean Davis: Davis's versatility and dedication saw him represent Fulham across all four divisions, making him a true club legend.

  • Rachel Yankey: One of FFCW’s most decorated and famous players, Yankey's contributions to the club and women's football are immense.

  • Mary Southgate: Southgate captained FFCW over the last 7.5 years, and incredible effort that sees her make the bench
